During the course of the play, the audience may realize that she doesn't say very much or doesn't even appear onstage very often. This may be true, but I think it just increases her depth even more. I have often wondered when Masha says nothing or leaves the stage, what is she doing? What is going through her head? It is a very difficult question to answer. She wants so much for Constantine to love her, but at the same time knows that he never will. She comes to terms with this fact by marrying Medvedenko, who is desperately in love with her. She doesn't love Medvedenko or want to marry him by any means, but she feels that if she could focus her attention on another man and a family, she could forget all about her feelings for Constantine.
Unfortunately, by the end of the play, she is still deeply in love with Constantine. I can't help but wonder how this leaves Masha when the play ends. Where will she go? What will she do? Will she ever be happy? These are also difficult questions to answer not only for Masha, but for each character in the show. I hope after the audience sees our performance, they will decide the fate for Masha and for every other character in the show.
